VALENTINE'S DAY DECOR:
This one is just a modifier for my "Pinterest" friends! I loved the Subway art that was pinned on there through eighteen25.blogspot.com. The only problem with it (and it's really really cute, so the ONLY problem) is that I'm cheap and didn't want to buy a new frame - because I don't have a frame that size just hanging out at my house. I do, however, have several empty frames around my house that are quite a bit smaller. SO I decided to take the idea and make it a bit more "homemaker friendly!" Below is my own adapted version of the cute Valentine's Day Subway art and loose instructions on how to do this yourself.
Here's what I did (it took me about an hour):
1. I went to Microsoft Word and created text boxes all the way across the page which I then typed the first two lines in. I played with different fonts as I went, trying to give a different feel to each line.
2. I found the "kiss lips" in the clipart and after I had one sized and placed I just copy and pasted it repeatedly in between the words). The good thing about using the text boxes instead of just typing lines is that you can get the bottom of one line a bit closer to the top of the next line.
3. Go under "insert" and then "shape" and choose a shape you like and size it. (for me it was between the thought bubble and the heart...I ultimately stuck with the heart since it's Valentine's Day art!)
4. Insert a text box and the words into the shape you like and size it so that you can's see the text box outside of the shape border.
5. Repeat step 1 to fill the rest of the page
6. I played with all the different variations of the red and pink color wheels for each text line (you select the "color" section from the toolbar and then go to the bottom where it says "more colors" and it will give you a honeycomb of colors. I don't think I repeated one single shade exactly.)
7. I set both the fill colors for my inserted shape and the internal text box to white, as well as the outline for the text box.
8. PRINT, measure and cut accordinly to you your frame size (mine is an 8x10, so I really just had to cut the margins off).
9. Pop it in the frame and put it on your counter...DONE!
*In order to do a picture that is smaller, just go under "Page layout" and make the margins larger- this will make your print range smaller and help you get the measurements to fit the actual frame size.*
I hope you guys enjoy! I've got a few more ideas that I will be trying soon, so keep looking and I'll keep updating :)

As you can see, mine is different in that I put a few designs into it and the letters don't all meet top to bottom, but I'm still happy with it! |
Close up of the bottom since it was kind of hard to read |

SO one of the reasons I started this blog is to be able to start doing "affiliate marketing." My husband's new promotion means that I don't have the time to work out of the home opposite shifts, but wasn't enough of a pay increase (yet....hoping it will be eventually!) for us to put the kids in childcare for me to go back to work (my degree has an extremely LOW starting salary that the child care would basically eat the cost for!). So I signed up with this company and am starting to post links. I promise if you become followers of my blog I WILL NOT inundate you with nothing but sales/marketing, but every once in a while you might see me put this link on here. If you WANT to look at it and have time, cool! If not, I will put lots of other info on here (stories, projects, DIY's etc) for everyone to keep up with. Thanks!

BACK-STORY:
I grew up an Army brat and proudly so. I have lived in some of the most amazing places and have traveled the world courtesy of the USArmy! My Dad is still active duty and made it to FULL BIRD (that means Col. for those of you who are not familiar w/ military lingo). My husband was born in St. Louis, MO but moved when he was very young to Blue Springs, MO (just outside of Kansas City) where he was raised and stayed until.....
we met in college at the University of Central Missouri. We started dating - his family...well, let's just say they didn't exactly love me to begin with (though I can't see why...I shared my opinion loudly, told people exactly what I thought, spared no feelings and...wait.....*self actualization moment* oooooohhh that's why...) and my family was sort of indifferent towards him since they lived really far away and rarely met. But we fell in love, got engaged, he graduated, we got married, I graduated and VIOLA....they were all mutually forced to......well, get over it. Now we all have great relationships - my parents adore him and his family really likes me...most of the time (we get better as we get older, but...some lessons are harder learned and I'm still a little mouthy.)
We moved to Florida, and got pregnant with our first son, Tristan (turning three in a matter of weeks and I swear I think I'm already balding). We stayed there until moving to Arkansas and where we did a really brief stint and found out we were expecting our second son, Liam (currently a happily oppinionated 17 month old). Shortly after, we were transfered to St. Louis where we stayed only 5 months and then it was back down to Arkansas. We are hoping to actually settle for a while!
I just wanted anyone who does not know me to have a little back story about where we come from before diving in to anything! I hope you all enjoy.

The Year of Weddings & Travel:
This year my husband and I found ourselves in a predicament that one is not in every day (or every year, actually). BOTH of my very best friends in the world got engaged in 2010 within a few months of each other AND my husband's youngest brother was already engaged to be married in 2011 already. So basically we were involved in the planning, procedures and the partying of three wedding over the course of 2011 (admittedly neither of us minded the obligitory partying with three sets of our favorite people). The glitch: we live in Arkansas...but none of the prior mentioned engaged people are in Arkansas! Last year we traveled to Kansas City, Missouri for my brother-in-law's wedding, Ritzville, Washington for one of my bf's weddings, and Richmond, Virginia for the final wedding of what we now look back on as "Wedding Season." The maddness began with a solo trip to Spokane, WA to attend Aimee's Couple's Shower (and whisk her away to a B&B just the two of us and our moms for a MUCH needed night of relaxation - and maybe a little wine).
...and continued in April in Kansas City for my brother-in-law's wedding.
I am able to post pictures of their wedding without infringing on copyrights because we used a family photographer. If you like any of these and are getting married in KC check out KennethEKintner Photography on Shutterfly (his sister did the pics for this wedding, but they often work together).
The next voyage was to Ritzville, Washington in May for my best friend Aimee's wedding.
Then it was Christmas and relatives and food and pajamas....lots and lots of pajamas. In fact, we spent New Year's Eve on the couch in our living room....in pajamas. Ahhhhhhh - just enough time to relax before the craziness of 2012 started in on us.

My neice, Addison, and me getting ready! I love the "photo-journalism" feel this pic has. |
family photo |
Pretty much sums up this group....a little off-the-wall & kinda random! |

Complete with photo booth (best idea EVER, btw). I'm the one in the HUGE glasses on the far right. |
Yep, that's how they roll |
And off they go! |
PAUSE & INSERT HERE: Fly to DC for Anna's Bridal Shower hosted by all of us Bridesmaids followed (two weeks later) by my younger son, Liam, turning 1 and throwing him a birthday party! AND in between all of this, my husband got a promotion.....okay....UN-PAUSE
And (deep breath - whew) for our final wedding of the year, we (Nick and I) were off to Richmond, VA for Anna's Celtic theme wedding!
We were supposed to look bored in the background. I managed....perplexed....like maybe I wasn't sure why I was there! bahaha |
Right after the ceremony :) |
Aaaaaaand scene.... |
As if that weren't quite enough......we decided to travel back to Kansas City to see family and visit our Alma Mater for Homecoming in October (about 10 days after getting back from Richmond).
We must be gluttons because in December, Nick and I headed (sans children) to Sedona, AZ to celebrate our 5 year anniversary - we traveled to see the Grand Canyon from there!
It was rainy and cold the first few days we were there, so had to resign to taking pics of ourselves instead of scenery |
And then the sun started to clear after the first few days... so we finally see some Red Rock peeking out. |
My jokster husband at Grand Canyon...right after I had a "mom" moment and told him to get back from the edge or he was going to slip. |
One of our last stops on our bus tour - smiles are a little smaller bc it was around 7,000 elevation and COLD. Clearly worth it, though. |
